We have G.R.I.P.S.
BYKE Collective abides by a set of values that is observed and practiced by youth members, staff and volunteers. These values are how we create a safe space and promotes positive community support. G.R.I.P. S. is an acronym that stands for Grit, Respect, Integrity, Peacemaker and Scholarship.
Youth members made a whole music video starting from scratch. They dropped their own bars, directed the film, and created their sound.
Our Youth Programming
EMPOWER BIKE CULTURE
BYKE is dedicated to empowering and uplifting bike culture. The way we bike should be celebrated.
BIKE REPAIR
BYKE provides a safe space for young people to maintain and repair their bicycles. The staff and volunteers of BYKE are ready to help solve any bike-related issue that may come up so our community has access to safe, reliable transportation.
BUILD COMMUNITY
BYKE members participate in a youth-led reflection after each shop day to discuss their goals, frustrations, and achievements. We provide a safe space for young people to discuss issues they may face both inside and outside the shop. Our meetings are always concluded with gratitude and affirmations.
WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT
Summer internships are available to 14-24 year olds who demonstrate the ability not only to fix bicycles but to teach others to do so, develop leadership skills, and exhibit commitment. Those who stand out during the summer are eligible to work during the school year as well. BYKE members also have access to a credit system. Our credit system enables young people to earn the parts they need or want, or, in some cases, entire bicycles. By helping others or working on shop projects, BYKE members earn credit from participating in our community.

OPEN SHOP
A drop-in model for youth members to learn bike mechanic skills and contribute to a positive community while earning BYKE credit. These credits can be used to 'purchase' a bike and/or bike parts.
GIRLZ SHOP
Girlz Shop is similar to our Open Shop model. Our priority is to encourage female engagement in the bike mechanic field. We are providing the space and energy for our female youth members enjoy bike life.

ARE YOU SMARTER THAN JASPER?
To respect social-distancing protocols, we have launched an academic-based Instagram series, Are You Smarter Than Jasper. Youth members can earn credits to 'purchase' a bike.
GOLDEN FLEET INTERNSHIP
An internship program designed to improve job readiness, enhance mechanic skills, boost mentorship confidence and grow entrepreneurial skills among older youth.
RISE UP RIDE OUT (R.U.R.O.)
We have teamed up with Mission Fit and Corner Team Boxing to offer a summer enrichment program. Youth in Baltimore City learn self-regulation through physical activity and recreation and establish transferrable life skills.
GROUP RIDES
Group rides around Baltimore give youth the opportunity to learn about new areas and practice safe riding in traffic.
